Why plan a longer stockpile now?

Ongoing regional conflicts have caused fertiliser and energy costs to spike. The Food & Drink Federation (FDF) revised its UK food inflation forecast from ~3% to at least 9% by end-2026 (April 2026). The UK Government's official Prepare website advises households to keep emergency food supplies. This tool helps you build a calm, rolling 4–8 week household buffer — no panic buying needed.

Rolling Stock Method: Build gradually, not all at once

The quantities below are your target stock levels. Build up over 2–3 months by buying a little extra each shop, then maintain this level. See the "Monthly Rolling Stock Guide" below.

Build over 3 months → then maintain monthly
                • Month 1: Focus on staples + basic protein — rice, pasta, oats, dried beans, tinned fish/meat, cooking oil. Check what you already have, calculate what to buy, and aim to fill half your grain and protein target.
                • Month 2: Add vegetables, tins and ready meals — frozen veg, chopped tomatoes, tinned soup, tinned fish. Fill the remaining staple gap to reach your target stock.
                • Month 3: Fine-tune and add special needs — dried fruit, snacks, UHT milk, regular medicines. Adjust targets based on what you've actually consumed.
                • Every month after: Do one stock check (e.g. first weekend of the month). Update current stock, calculate what to top up, and buy on your regular shop.
                • First In, First Out (FIFO): New purchases go at the back; always use the oldest items first to minimise waste and expired stock.
                • Use promotions: When a target item is on offer, buy a little extra to build or maintain your buffer.
                • Quarterly check: Every 3 months, check best-before dates and replace anything approaching expiry.

"Use what you store. Replace what you use." — Resilience without panic or waste.
